It causes recurrent episodes of shortness of breath, chest pain, productive cough, low-grade fever. I have to take corticosteroids with every exacerbation and am now being placed on them as a maintenance dose. My lungs are damaged and irreparable. It is incapacitating when I have symptoms. MACRODANTIN (NITROFURANTOIN, MACROCRYSTALLINE): This medication is used to treat or prevent certain urinary tract infections. This medication is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It will not work for viral infections (e.g., common cold, flu). Unnecessary use or overuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness.
