I have been on tegretol for over 10 years. I started with 1 pill (200 mg) per day and have varied it depending on the outbreaks. I increase it to 1000 mg per day when the pain is severe. I currently take 800 mg per day and have started to slowly reduce it to 700 mg per day. Target is to take 400 mg per day (2 pills).
