| 1 | Sexual advances-wife/Alzheimers | As a disabled RN, I know that Haldol is detrimental to our individual's (ESPECIALLY to our elderly population). Recently, my dad was at deaths door due to Haldol's side effects. Haldol causes tardive dyskinsia (muscle stiffness, alterted range of motion, etc). This week, I moved my 90 year old dad from a Rehab/nursing facility in NC - (I am dad's POA & Health Care Surrogate). The physicians knew that they were NOT allowed to prescribe ANY medication for dad unless I was notified. I was horrified when I took dad from the facility in NC and discovered that they had been "zoning" him out with Haldol. (I thought that his memory and mobility problems were due to the his aging process). Haldol has too many side effects to even be on the market. I took dad home to FL (mom passed away a few months ago, so it was time for a move for dad). Dad's legs were so swollen that they were purple: I immediately discontinued the Haldol. The Dr. at another hospital told us to take it away immediately, which we finally insisted on when we found out how harmful this drug is. With physical therapy for a month and a half he has improved and now knows most of the family. He is in a nursing home now using depends because he cannot always make it to the bathroom. He also wanders and we are afraid he will leave the house and get lost. He has severe night sweats also. This is a horrible drug that almost killed my Dad. It should be banned!!! Why is it still allowed on the market? A harmful,useless drug... | No one needs this drug. But nurse at st thomas hospital in nashville gave it to him after i asked her not to because the first time they gave it he almost smothered. He died the next day. He suffered all night trying to breathe. Even the next morning they wanted to give him another dose of haldol. St thomas hospital killed my father by sneaking and giving him haldol. They wanted him asleep so they wouldn't have to care for him. All they did for him was bring a fan because he was so hot from trying to breathe. They could have saved him if they had called a doctor. This was after 7 days of being kept awake, which was exacerabting a manic condition which occurs under stress or sleeple | discharge" dx "chronic paranoid chizophrenic". No mention of sleep disorder MCS, SEVERE akathesia resulted, FMS was exacerbated. HCV+;doc was APPALLED these LIVERDAMAGING DRUGS had been rxed. The Wealth Care Industry of NYC makes $$ off of persons whose TRUE CONDITIONS do not fit the DMSIV, so they concoct a dx. this was abusive unnecessary "treatment" for a condition I do not now nor ever have had. Denied a request for medical records form.One month after discontinuing ALL of the neuroleptics,am still hostile outraged, anorexic, and have been incredibly sick as I was detoxifying them .All psychiatrists should be forced to take it in the dosage they prescribe for their patients. HALDOL (HALOPERIDOL LACTATE): Haloperidol is used to treat certain mental/mood disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders). This medicine helps you to think more clearly, feel less nervous, and take part in everyday life. It can also help prevent suicide in people who are likely to harm themselves. It also reduces aggression and the desire to hurt others. It can decrease negative thoughts and hallucinations. Haloperidol can also be used to treat uncontrolled movements and outbursts of words/sounds related to Tourette's syndrome. Haloperidol is also used for severe behavior problems in hyperactive children when other treatments or medications have not worked. Haloperidol is a psychiatric medication (antipsychotic-type) that works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters).
