I had to take a few minutes every day for about 4 days to scrape it out of me. My vagina got really swollen and sore. I had a lot of pressure and pain. Uncontrollable crying/screaming, hallucinations, insomnia, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, brain fog, memory issues, headaches, dizziness, fainting, unsteady, stomach pain, pelvic/vaginal pain, nerve/muscle pains, back pain, burning when peeing, frequent urinating, bladder pain/pressure, numbness, tingling, burning sensations all over my body, pain with sex, constipation, bowel issues, heartburn, weird taste in mouth, breathing problems, heart problems, allergy/sinus problems, worsened periods, etc... | I went to the ER for UTI symptoms, the doctor was creepy and said my urine was clean so he wanted to do a pelvic exam. He said everything looked good, and I had no signs of anything wrong. He made weird comments as he did the exam. I was left in the room for hours before he came in and just threw a paper at me with a metronidazole prescription. I scheduled with my regular doctor later that morning, and she told me not to get the pills because the gel was better. She refused to even listen to me about not having any symptoms of bv. I got the gel and it was a nightmare. This was 3 months ago, one dose(also too high of a dosage for someone my size) and I still have issues. I went back to a different ER about a week later where they found a horrible UTI, like I knew it was. My gynecologist said I never even had BV. This is the worst medicine ever. My original post was in 2019. As of November 2020, its been approximately two and a half years since I took this drug. Currently, I still have peripheral neuropathy in both feet and legs, but the burning pain has been slowly reducing, where I can now walk further and longer and have some sort of quality of life. The vision continues to deteriorate, especially in the left eye. | I took this drug two and a half years ago and have experienced severe burning pain in my feet and legs. Also, I started to lose my vision. Prior taking this drug, my left eye was 20/10, but as of now the vision has become significantly worse. I also had other symptoms such as severe insomnia, muscle twitching, high heart rate, heart palpitations, fatigue, sudden anxiety, and sinus problems. As of November 2020, some of my symptoms have completely resolved, but some still remain such as peripheral neuropathy, which I hope will completely resolve. Since I took Metronidazole, it's been a tough journey for me toward restoring my health and I hope that I will gradually become a healthy woman as I was before taking this drug. In 2018, I visited a neurologist and she was very surprised that metronidazole could cause peripheral neuropathy after a short course, but she said that it is possible. She wanted to prescribe me some pills to take for pain, but I refused to take any kind of drugs. I think after taking metronidazole, I became very cautious. If anyone has experienced neurological side effects similar to mine and/ or vision problems, please share with me your experience. After the first pill, I experienced stabbing stomach pains, searing pain in the back of my head, radiating into my lower back. Then the numbness and tingling started in my hands and lower limbs, followed by difficulty walking and chest pains. My resting heart-rate went from mid 50s to high 70s, and my normally low blood pressure topped out at the high end of normal. 2 years later, I am still experiencing brain fog, fatigue, peripheral neuropathy. I have gone from being a runner (10km 4 times a week), to still having difficulty walking at times. | Metronidazole is neurotoxic, and can negatively effect the CNS, peripheral, and Enteric nervous systems.
