Luckily my daughter realized these were side effects and pointed this out to the doctor who finally stopped the poisonous drug. | Horrible drug. One day after she quit the Flagyl, she ended up in the ER because she felt so sick. They hospitalized her for 2 days, ran numerous tests, did blood work just to make sure it was nothing else. Her Diverticulitis is gone and all labs came back normal. She has been off the Flagyl for 4 days now and still feels VERY sick - Dr. assured her it's because of the Flagyl and it could take up to 10 days after stopping it to feel back to normal. I just got back from a follow-up appointment & was told all tests were normal & it could have been the medicine that has left me like this. The doctor has ordered more tests and blood work. It has been almost two months and my mouth is still numb. I just hope and pray that the numbness goes away so I can eat normally again and not have to have my food blended or liquids thickened. FLAGYL (METRONIDAZOLE): Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to treat a wide variety of infections. It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria and parasites. This antibiotic treats only certain bacterial and parasitic infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
