| 1 | long very painful periods | I got my shot back at the beginning of July and its nearly the end of December now. I was told the shot would only last for three months but I'm still feeling the side effects. The first month was alright I suppose with a little bit of back and abdominal pain. Nothing like with what I went through when I was on the Nuva Ring. Then it came time for my period... Usually I would have cramped so hard for the first three days I would puke and have to take some hard core pain meds, but this didn't happen... But the period didn't stop for four and a half months. Now my bleeding will stop for about two-four days and then I will bleed for a week. On the days I don't bleed I have extreme mood swings. And I've never really been the type to cry during movies or even funerals, but now I can break into tears at the drop of a hat because of a song or a commercial. I experienced morning-sickness-like symptoms especially when I exercised. I do NOT recommend this for ANYONE! Don't take it. It's the worst mistake ever. I'm switching to the pill when my next shot is due. New research of the shot is showing a correlation to cancer, and that's not something I want to add to the side effects of this drug.
