PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  osteopenia Please read this before taking the PROLIA injection. My endocrinologist recommended prolia for me after taking the drug called ACTONEL for 8 months. The Actonel's side effects were killing me, literally... After prolia was approved by my insurance company, the drug was shipped to my doctor. He specifically told me, because I asked, that the side effects from prolia were mild. He said the same thing about Actonel. I called his office today after doing extensive research on this drug and canceled my appointment for the injection. I hate to say it...but I think these doctors are receiving a kick back from the drug companies for having patients taking these horrible drugs. I'm going to continue taking vitamin "D" and calcium supplements and hope for the best. I'm very active and I feel great now after I stopped the actonel. I'll never get talked into a medical trap again.. M 63 0 days

1  Osteoporosis Bone and muscle pain. The bone and muscle pain is off the chart. My husband has had 1 shot in July 2016. He will not get another one. He was disabled before this shot but since getting it, he is worse. Prolia is suppose to help but he thinks it makes it worse and should be taken off the market. M 62 6 months

1  osteoparosis None I have been reading reviews about side effects, to determine if I want to use Prolia. It seems that the vast majority of people who use it with little side effect are younger, people in their 40's to early 60's. Older users seem to have the most side effects. I'm not willing to take the chance of negative side effects M 67 0 days

1  To treat osteopenia condition Had terrible experience with this drug. My doctor recommended it to treat my osteopenia condition as a preventive measure, more than 2 years ago. Within a few weeks of the first shot, I developed hives and what looked like insect bites. I had been swimming in the sea daily so I thought I was bitten by sea lice. Six months later, after the second Prolia shot, all hell broke loose. I developed severe skin problems, itchy all over, hives appeared in any and every part of my body and they turned into blisters that would break and bleed. Every morning, my pajama would have blood spots in many places. By the seventh month of the last Prolia shot, I had to take Blexten (a strong antihistamine) daily to manage the problem and sleep became almost impossible. I put ice patches all over me at night to get relief so that I could catch some sleep. Finally, by the eleventh month after the last shot, with the help of Blexten, the itchiness was finally more tolerable. I am now in my eleventh month since the last shot and the itchiness is not over. I cursed my own stupidity for trusting my doctor and not do my own due diligence before taking Prolia. My doctor was totally helpless when I reported the problem to her and was not helpful. She kept saying that Prolia has little to no side effects, but she could not explain or treat my condition. Before you consider taking Prolia, consider my case as a warning. M 71 1 years
