PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteoporosis I'm no longer taking this medication. I feel much better six months out from my injection and don't plan on taking another shot. If it turns out after a pet scan that I do have metastasis, I will probably do it because it's better than nothing. I still think that Proia kickstarted the return of two tumors in my breast which I had removed yesterday. Just glad the biggest part of it is over. F 71 180 days

1  Osteopenia My immune system was compromised and caused my breast cancer to return within three months. Proof? Had a clear mammogram in April and now in November it had returned at the excision site. Large mass, almost 2 cm in three months. I am so angry. I am considering a lawsuit. If you are disease free from breast cancer, do not take this drug! It will compromise your immune system and cause your breast cancer to return in a matter of months. F 71 3 months

1  Osteoporosis I received my fourth polio shot 18 days ago. This time the symptoms are extreme. Muscle weakness, joint pain and fatigue. I went to the emergency room but they didn't find anything. I even went to a rheumatologist. He said my blood tests were normal and most likely my symptoms are from prolea and a drug for my breast cancer Exemestane . I am miserable. I pray that the symptoms will go away I can barely function. I am normally a tough patient but this drug has knocked me out of the ring. F 67 2 years

1  osteoporosis first injection. hot flashes started within 8 hours, brutal! three days after injection, calcium dropped so low, I had tingling in my face, knew it was bad. Started taking massive doses of Calcium and tums trying to get it under control, reached out to the rheumatologist. 2 days later, Dr. told me to go to the ER, thought I was having a stroke which I clearly was not. she was no help at all. These symptoms continued for 2 weeks so I reached out to my Endo-oncologist at Moffitt and he ordered blood work. After that came back with calcium low(surprise!) he put me on Calcitriol for better vit D and calcium absorption, which seems to have done the trick, I repeat labs in a week. no thanks...not getting any more injections. Looking into other options. F 63 1 days

1  osteoporosis every horrible side effect listed. I spent 2 years on Forteo, 2 years on Reclast and now 2 years on Prolia. We all now know how dangerous it is. I need to know what is next for those of us who dare to discontinue it? How do we flush this poison out? Are we now to spend the rest of our life in pain? F 63 2 years

4  Severe Osteoporosis I am a -4.2 after an increase of 6% from Reclast. I have had 2 Prolia shots and have not experienced any side effects with Prolia. I have noticed that my fingernails and hair are growing faster. My spine feels better since I have started Prolia. Where I had pain from old compression fractures, I do not experience pain anymore. I make sure I get plenty of calcium from my foods and drink lots of water. I have 2 neighbors on Prolia. One has been on it 3 years and has no side effects. The other, two years without side effects! I will have a bone density test in February to see if it is helping. If not, I will choose to try Evenity. F 68 8 months
