PROLIA  (DENOSUMAB):  Denosumab is used to treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women who are at high risk for bone fracture after menopause. It is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk for bone fracture. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases after menopause (in women), as you age, if someone in your family has osteoporosis, or if you take corticosteroid medications (such as prednisone) for long periods. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in women who are at high risk for bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for breast cancer. Denosumab is also used to treat bone loss in men who are at high risk of bone fracture while receiving certain treatments for prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body. This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of broken bones (fractures). Denosumab belongs to a class of drugs called monoclonal antibodies. It prevents certain cells in the body (osteoclasts) from breaking down bone.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Osteoporosis On 2nd day experienced extreme nausea followed by diarrhea. Nausea lasted 2 days and affected my stomach to the point where it starts hurting after the third bite of food. I find that I have to stop eating at that point or deal with the consequences of of feeling miserable and in pain for the rest of the day. The pain in my heart and pit of stomache was so severe that I will not take prolianagain. F 88 2 weeks

1  osteoporosis Shortness of breath, hypertension, neuralgia, throat constriction, bone pain in leg and hip, face numbness, nausea, vomiting, light headed, fainting, uncontrolled weight loss, fatigue, and feeling as though I was dying. Symptoms persisted for months. It has been 10 months since my last injection, and I am still not feeling well. The symptoms of weakness, fatigue, lack of energy, and light headedness started after 2 weeks of my first injection. Three months after the first injection, I fainted and had my first hospitalization from the side effects, but the cause was unknown. Because of increasing symptoms and severity of symptoms, I had to resign from my job and stop driving after taking Prolia. It has robbed me of my quality of life. The prescribing doctor, Judity Castillo, MD, did not acknowledge that my symptoms were from Prolia, although the package insert mentions many of my symptoms. Prescribing physicians desperately need to be educated about the risks of this drug. F 86 3 times

1  Osteopenia after breast cancer Nausea and extreme joint lasting Up to 3 months after the shot. Doctor kept saying I was the only patient that complained about it and pushed me to continue. I finally refused to continue in July of 2016. My most recent test in July of 2017 showed no change. Terrible drug for me. Negatively Impacted my quality of life for 6 months every year for 6 years.  1  osteoporosis Delay in getting Prolia shot was associated with change in doctors at a university medical center. This resulted in multiple vertebral compression fractures. Severe pain, disability and deformity. I can no longer live my normal active life. The word "DELAY" appeared NOWHERE in any information I was given. My doctor retired & new doctor could not see me immediately and nothing was done to make sure I got shot on time. Bones fractured in WEEKS of when that shot was due. While bones have healed, deformity and pain persist. They put me back on Prolia and now that I've learned more I would like to get off it but there seems to be no way to do this SAFELY!!! Even switch to other drugs could be dangerous. And Prolia didn't do much for the osteoporosis. F 83 7 years

1  To strength my bones First within a couple of days developed shortness of breath, heaviness in my chest. Had stress test, was negative. Two weeks later developed severe lower legs cramps. I continue to have leg cramps and generalized aching . Spent night in hospital and they pushed fluids to help flush the prolia from my body to help the effects/discomfort I was experiencing. I still deal with symptoms. F 81 1 times

1  Aromatose inhibitor and osteoporosi I developed leg and hip pain, and difficulty walking, combined with poor balance. Attributed them to other medications a d post Quimo. However, after three years and symptoms getting worse with the addition of headaches, nausea, and constipation, I began to suspect Prolia. Side effects or the fact that it cannot be discontinued we're not stated by doctor.would have never taken it if informed. Do not take it. It's badf you take it and bad if you discontinue it.  1  osteoporosis The day after receiving a prolia shot, both my arms broke out in a fiery red itchy rash and later with horrible stinging. Rash and itching would subside in one area of my body and move to another. I was miserable and got very little sleep for 6 months. I canceled the second prolia shot which was due 6 months later. In the last few days before the second shot was due, the tormenting itching and stinging rash significantly subsided. After 6 months, no rash. The only other medicine I take is blood pressure medicine that I have been on for 5 years and am still taking. F 79 6 months

1  Osteoporosis This was my second time taking Prolia shot then I started breaking out in hives and have been ever since the second shot I’ve been to the emergency room six occasions when the hives got so bad I needed to get an IV Benadryl and looking at all the other side effects I’ve had several of those as well but did not realize that they were due to the pro Leah shot until finally my doctor said I could have allergic reaction to it since I couldn’t find any other reason why I would have the rash !  1  osteoporosis was prescribed two shots per year. had first one and started with body pain/jaw problems. doctor gave shots in hip area saying it had nothing to do with prolia. felt so bad cancelled 2nd shot. doctor was very unkind to the fact i cancelled. had to have two teeth extracted in the next two years. then went back and got another shot in 2014. now experiencing full body pain. doctor still professing it had nothing to do with prolia. finally this year i had to have what teeth i had left all extracted. my dentist surgeon wanted to know the exact date of my last injection which i gave him. he then told me just how bad this drug really is and how dangerous it can be with having to have teeth extracted. he had nothing good to say about this drug. my family doctor seemed to think i had fibroymyalgia. she retired and now i have a new doctor who also said all the symptoms i am showing are from the prolia. just wonder how much Blythe Danner is getting to do her commericals???? get it off the market!
