3  Chron's This is an update to my previous posting My doc has taken me off of the Humira. I've been sick almost daily since the last dosage experiencing flu, headache, chest pains, joint pains, fever and night sweats. It has really been had to deal with. It has actually worked better for the Chron's than anything I've taken I really hate that it's not going to work. F 36 1.5 months

4  Psoriatic Arthritis I started taking this drug 6 months ago for psariatic arthritis, I thought it was the mirricle drug. My psoriasis cleared up in about 6 weeks and my infamation went down considerably. I didn't know the side effects of this drug and at the time did not care because I am 29 years old and just wanted to look and feel my age. I suffered 2 strokes due to Humira. If you read the possible side effects it clearly states you can have all the symptoms of a stroke but does not clearly state it can cause a STROKE. I am 29 years old, I am now off of work and doing physical therapy to learn how to walk again, my 8 year old daughter doesn't understand why this happened to her mommy. Neither do I. Had I known this could have been a side effect I would have been more cautious. Now I am sicker than ever and my psoriasis is coming back. Read the fine print, know the possible side effects F 29 6 months

4  psoratic arthritis, crohn's possibly lowered B12, I have neuropathy which is worse, also ringing in my ears (started 2 mos after humira) but not sure if from humira. I also get a lg welt at site but goes away in 2 days. I had some blockage in my common bile duct also since starting this. I was on a high dose of prednisone, and entocort and after a few months starting this I am down to 5 mg. I tried remicade and had a reaction after 2nd and 3rd dose. I was having many joint problems and am now much improved. I also worry about any long term effects, since if I am even late a few days I can feel it. This is truly a miracle drug for those that need it. I also have been very healthy virus-wise since starting. F 60 8 months

5  CROHN'S This is a follow-up to my 10/27/07 and 02/25/08 postings. I have been using Humira for one year and currently have no significant side effects. I experience headaches and occasionally slight nausea immediately following injections, but taking the shot just before bedtime solves the problem. I’ve have zero Chron’s symptoms and have been free of Prednisone/Entocort since the initial 4-shot starter dose. I initially experienced minor hair loss 6-8 weeks after the 4-shot starter, but it was only noticeable to me; and it grew back. This is the first drug that has worked for me . . . I had catastrophic reactions to Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Dipentum and Imuran before finding Humira. M 49 12 months

3  Sever psoriasis/possible arthritis In first 2 doses full healing of symptoms but when skipped a week the psoriasis came back and spread over the palms of both of my hands keeping me from using my left hand completely. My doc placed me on cyclosporine diversified as well, I have been on cyclosporine diversified for 2 weeks with the Humira and it worked until my last humira shot. Rash is returning on hands and other spots and now have severe joint pain. Humira did seem to work weekly for me, doubt I could get insurance to cover me for more than the every other week shot. Know a person on weekly shots of humira and is successful with the clearing of psoraisis symptoms. F 33 3 months

4  Rheumatoid arthristis 14 months after humira injection (once every 2 weeks), I developed bad rash like chicken pox. I took steriod orally and put on skin steriod cream to clear the rash. Injection site swelling and redness usually disappear within one day. I worry that the rash may come back in the future. It took about six month before my rheumatoid arthritis symptom went away. I had polio when I was very young. Before taking humira, rheumatoid arthritis made it painful to walk but my muscle strength remained good. I have had humira for 21 months now. Although join pain is gone, I feel very weak in leg and arm muscle strength. I need a walking cane to move around which I did not use before humira. M 54 21 months

5  Psoriatic Arthritis Only horrible burning pain when injecting the pen. Soreness at site for about 15 minutes. I had severe PA and only Prednisone at 30 mg. helped. I was on 1800 mg. Ibuprofin, 1000mg Naproxen per day with little relief and only after 3 hours would it allow me to move my neck. I had 6 children I couldn't care for. A newborn baby I couldn't hold or carry. I then went to Methotrexate. That took 3 months to become effective but still pain and stiffness. Then my dr. ordered Humira pen for me. I woke up the next day completely pain free and have been 100% pain free every day for almost 2 years. I garden, take 1 mile walks and even jog sometimes. I can cook, clean, and take care of my family. I don't have good or bad days, they are all good. I was taking 2 shots/month with 4 shots of Meth/month. Now I am off of every drug and taking Humira once every 4 weeks. I may get a little tired a few days before the injection. I don't get sick very often though the whole family can come down with something for days and weeks. I hope to one day completely wean off of Humira, but for now, God has F 37 2 years

5  Severe plaque psoriasis Slight fatigue and bloating first day after injection. Completely changed my life. Psoriasis completely cleared up within 1 month, psoriatic arthritis pain decreased almost immediately. Very low side effects, easy injections from "pen", very well tolerated. Couple of hints for pain free injection: numb injection sight with ice prior to injecting and let pen sit out to room temperature for 20 minutes. Feel free to e-mail with any questions! M 37 4 months

5  chronic non-relenting RA pain at injection site, severe stomach bloating, gas, nausea, fever, caught every virus around I still recommend Humira since I can move about more freely and am pain free when I wake up. The ability to sleep pain free is new. It's distressing to suddently catch every cold and flu now when I rarely got sick before.  5  Rheumatoid Arthritis 34years Injection site, red, swollen, itchy. No reaction when I let it come to room temperature for 30 minutes. My improvement was gradual. I lost my appetite and 80 pounds over 1 1/2 years. I don't think Humira was responsible. It's still a happy surprise when I can do something I couldn't do before. Like housework,cooking,self-care, and slow walks. I also take prednisone, MTX oral, Plaquenil and at the onset of a flare I take Tylenol #3 which usually stops the flare. I only inject arms and legs, rotating every 2 weeks. I'm happy and in good shape all things considered. The support team is very helpful. Frankly, I'd take almost anything to improve my quality of life. F 62 2 years

4  psoriatic arthritis Injection site reactions. I get a raised itchy red area. It didn't happen for the first 3-4 months but now it happens every time. Annoying but no where near as bad as having the arthritis symptoms. Also, it stings during injection but only for about 5 seconds. It has greatly improved my arthritis. Pain and fatigue are almost totally gone. Very effective for me. 47 1 years

4  psoriasis/psoriasic arthritis It has cleared my psoriasis 85% in a three week period. Side effects have been more migraines than before starting the drug and bad joint pain.  5  crohn's Pretty bad joint and muscle pain every day...perhaps a little fatique. Hair loss (I think it's from the drug...could be seasonal shedding?). After 2 months started having injection site reaction of red ichy welt that lasts several days. I am torn... this is working great on my crohn's from the start and is so easy and convenient (other drugs didn't work or made me sick, and I hated taking 10+ pills a day), but I am tired of being sore and achy all the time and feeling twice my age. when I first talked to my doc about the joint pain, he said it was my body getting used to it and if it doesn't improve he could send me to a rheumatologist, but it isn't getting better and I don't think another doc would help. I hate the idea of remicade, and just wish i didn't have these bad side effects. I think i will try one or 2 more shots and hope it improves... but I feel silly having this hope that the side effects will one day disappear... F 34 3 months

4  Severe plaque Psorisis Stinging at injection site, leaving the pen out for twenty minutes helped I have had severe and embarrasing psorisis for 27 years, creams & lotions didn't help. Sandimun Neurol cleared it up, but left me with high blood pressure and built up in my kidneys to toxic levels, my specialist took me off it immediately. I have several types of mental illness, so any fogginess or confusion may be attributed to that or the meds I take for it. Humira hasn't done anything for my osteoarthritis, but the psorisis began to clear up immediately. I now only have a few spots and some dark marks where the worst had been. I hate injecting myself, but it is better than the alternative of living in embarrasment and wanting to scratch my skin off in bed at night. F 58 21 weeks

5  CROHN'S This is a follow-up to my 10/27/07 posting now that I have been taking Humira for six months. I continue to experience slight nausea and headaches on the day of injections. I experienced moderate hair thinning approximately two to three months after beginning, but the thinning only lasted for two months. Over the past month I have noticed joint pain but I do not know if this is due to Humira. I have not had any Crohn’s symptoms since beginning Humira. This is the only Crohn’s drug that has worked for me over the last 7.5 years. I am now working with my doctor to slowing start reducing the injection frequency from two to three weeks. M 49 6 months

3  Ulcerative Colitis I become extremely tired after each injection. One time I developed a high fever with flu-like symptoms—but only once, and my doctor said it was probably because I had a head cold at the time. Other than that, I haven't experienced any other adverse reactions. I haven't been taking Humira long enough to know if it's helping with my symptoms. Try injecting it in your stomach—it is much less painful than in the thighs! Visit my blog on ulcerative colitis: www.UCgirl.blogspot.com F 20 1 months

1  Rheumatiod Arthritis Compromised my autoimmune system and when I developed a cold and sinus infection, then strep A, my two paper cuts ulcerized, became infected, body became septic and I nearly died. Five days in ICU saved my life. Also was taking methotrexate 3x a week. The end result is my middle finger, which was infected, will be amputated.  5  Crohn's Disease The only side effects I have seem to be a bad sting when I take the shot that quickly subsides. And a lowered immune system. I am more prone to colds and infections then before taking Humira. It has changed my life. I struggled with multiple medications before trying humira. And since I have started I am now only on Humira. I have been able to drop all my other meds. I must note I give myself Humira shots weekly (Under D' Orders) and not bi-weekly like it is normally prescribed. M 34 5 months

4  Crohn's Injection site hurt for a few hours after, but no lasting problem. My hair is starting to fall out a bit (like it do while on Imuran), but don't know yet if it's Humira causing this. I was on Remicade for over 3 years when I started bleeding again. My doctor wanted to put me back on Prednisone which is extremely dangerous for me since I'm diabetic (sugars go over 600!). I took myself off the Remicade and about 8 months later I was in bad shape. I lost 25 pounds in 21 days. It took about 3 weeks to get the insurance approval for Humira and I've been on it about 6 weeks now. Feeling pretty good. I've seen 3 specialists in the past few months and none of them have used Humira before. I also have MS, which appears to be an issue with Humira from what I've read, but it hasn't affected me as of yet. I'll use what shots I already have and then see how I do. F 48 6 weeks

5  Rheumatoid Arthritis I'm into my fourth week of Humira. For the first few days after the injection I have been incredibly tired and just want to sleep, but it's working for me. Humira has significantly reduced my pain and inflammation. I've had r/a for 22 years. I've had surgery on my feet, wrist, had and chest (CABG) and before starting Humira a month ago my neck was so sore I couldn't pick it up off the pillow sometimes. I have experienced improved mobility, reduced pain and a better quality of life. M 59 28 days

4  Psoriatic arthritis/Psoriasis No injection site problems. After about a year I developed itching problems on my back and left hand. I also have minor swelling in that hand. No infections, no mental problems. Excellent control of psoriasis lesions, almost 100%. After 6 mos very good control of PA symptoms. My Dr increased period between injections from 2 to 3 wks...bad move. PA symptoms began to come back. Went on 3 wk regimen for 3 mos and now back to 2 wks. Control of PA not as effective now, perhaps 60%. I would be afraid to stop injections because it has helped contol joint damage. I may ad MTX to treatment. Would consider trying Remicade or Enbrel.  5  CROHN'S The only side effects are 30 to 60 minutes of nausea immediately following the injections and a felling of fatigue and mental fogginess the remainder of the day. Decided to try Humira after experiencing severe adverse reactions to Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Dipentum and Imuran. Prednisone worked well for me but after seven years of use caused hip and lower back problems. Started Humia 30 days ago and was totally symptom free and off the steroids within the first week.  4  Rheumatoid Arthritis Mental confusion, 'non-specific dermal rash' under my arms that blister, multiple bouts of strep throat and sinus infections. My hair does seem to be going thru 'something', it seems coarser and perhaps it is starting to thin. I have the most dastardly headaches as of late. Could be that I take the Humira every other week and a weekly injection of Methotrexate to boot. I am able to walk without a cane or walker. I have to say I am happy with the results. M 38 2.5 years

4  Psoriatic Athritis & Psoriasis Slight backache starting right before 3rd shot. A little sluggish in thought sometimes. Strong stinging sensation at injection site, during and immediately following injection. I am currently on my 3rd shot of Humira, and felt immediate results the next day after the very first shot! 90% of my Psoriatic Athritis pain went away, allowing me to function normally for the first time in years. Has not cleared up my scalp psoriasis whatsoever. A slight backache has only recently developed. Am unsure if this is connected to the medication. I do lose my train of thought more and more it seems, but unsure that is connected to medication either. I also take Ambien, for sleep issues, and zoloft as a pain blocker. Humira, in conjuction with the ambien, has 90% cured me of pain, and allowed me to begin to rebuild my life. However, I wish it would help more with the scalp/skin issues, and am hoping as I take the shot longer ( once every two weeks). F 29 6 weeks

1  Rheumatoid arthritis After receiving the 3rd injection I began to develop a rash on my right arm, from there I developed a very severe itchy rash from head to toe; I though I had a severe case of the chicken pox which I did not. I could not go out in the sun because it would cause unbearable severe itching. This medicine caused permanent scars and dark marks all over my body. It has been 3 yrs and I still have a slight area that has not quite healed. I spend 6 months with little sleep because of the unbearable itching and severe depression. A dermatologist had to try various medicines to finally control it. I had never had a reaction to any medicines until I took Humira. It was like a horrible nightmare. I would hate for anyone else to go thru what I did. It may work for others but it caused severe damage to my skin. I just shiver whenever I here the word Humira.  4  Severe Psoriatic & Rhuem Arthritis Due to insurance issues (lack of) this is my second round of Humira. I am on it and Methotrexate after being on MTX alone. Side effects seem to be brain fog like that from Fibromyalgia. I have also had severe gasto issues from time to time even when taking Humira alone. When taking Humira it seems to make Psoriatic Blistering much worse for a few days after the injection. In time it will clear the blistering. I do not have issues with psoriatic plaques but assume it would benifit there as well. I take it weekly and this round I am at about week #5. I have found that the pre loaded dose pack burns very bad. When I change it to a 1cc sub q needle it is easier to inject but still burns as it is just part of the medication. When on it before it helped with mobility after 8 - 12 weeks. I believe it would have helped with pain beyond that had I not lost insurance. Feel free to email.  2  rheumatoid arthritis 13 days after first and only injection, developed red rash all over, starting at the injection site. Will see my doctor to determine whether to continue injections.. I only had one injection, and I can't really tell if it helped or not. I was diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago and Plaquenil keeps me virtually pain-free. F 50

1  severe Rheumatoid arthritis Eleven [11] days after my first injection of humira I developed a huge swelling at the injection site, and a full body very itchy rash which took me to the ER, i had to take a lot od steroids for a long time [3 months], as well as Tagamet and Benedryl. It took two weeks for the rash to clear up but as the drug is long lasting in your system I was in steroids for 3 months. Not enough data, not enough testing and info. I subsequently developed diabetes from the steroids and NO ONE can tell me why the reaction began 11 days post injection. F 61 1 days

5  autoimmune reaction disorder I was on Enbrel, which does the same thing: suppresses immune system. In my case autoimmune overreacts to foods (gluten/casseinate mostly). It works very well. I don't hardly notice a reaction to foods. I'm not supposed to be eating those foods, & that's the bad part...I've been slipping & eating those foods again b/c I can get away with it without pain. Today, in the news there was a new study that says Humira causes 3 times cancer than placebo. Great. I'm not happy about being on the drug, but it does make it so I don't feel bad... and I was feeling bad even when my diet was clean. There's a new drug that is supposed to be on the way called Zonulin. Going thru another human trial now. Alba Pharmaceuticals in MD. Sposed to work differently for this sort of problem. Sposed to stop the gluten from getting thru spaces in mucosal intestinal wall. It sounds very promising!! Apparently, this is related to just about all auto immune issues. F 48 1 months
