I have recently been diagnosed with AS. I am to be started on Humira in the next couple of weeks, I have been reading reviews to see what other peoples reactions are like. So far it seems very 50/50, either it works brilliantly with no side effects or it doesn't work with lots of side effects. I have read some disturbing and frankly wrong reviews and would like to share my thoughts. It is true, Humira can increase the risk of some cancers, due to it being a TNF-inhibitor, however if the TNF cells were that great at their job (necrosing tumour cells), nobody would suffer from cancer... Ever!! Therefore, the risk of cancer is always present even without Humira. Also, this drug is not a 'cure' it has never been marketed as a cure, it is designed to slow the progression of the disease and minimize further damage. A final note, to the people who are saying ' DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG!!! IT WILL KILL YOU!!' You are utterly ridiculous! I understand you feel strongly about this and i am deeply sorry you have suffered from sevear side effects, but you are potentially putting other people off, people who could really benefit from this drug and who's life could potentially be changed for the better. Your utterly unrealistic 'warnings' are extreamly dangerous and unnecessary. I will post another review once I have started my treatment. I have experienced muscle aches low grade fever infections that take to long to heal. Joint pain. Overall and ongoing fatigue, weakening over the years to the point that my strength is 20% of what it used to be. I have not achieved remission. I have gotten it somewhat under control but still have flare ups about 1x a month. I am at this point trying to justify the cost! It was $ 1500.00 peronth when I started taking it. Now it is $5700.00 per month. THHIS IS AN OUTRAGE. That it costs this much. I currently have cuts inside my nostrils that started with dry winter air and havent healed for 2 years, started with remicaid. burns in my armpits from using prescription strength deodorant that was too strong and hasnt healed on its own in about a year. Both being treated with cortisone cream daily and if i miss a day it goes back to raw skin. Behing my ears, right in the crease and down under the lobe of my ears ive developed a constant cracking a bleeding that also needs to be maintained with cortisone cream. I have cysts that will randomly pop up on my body, legs arms, stomach, ect. Ive never had cystic acne in my life but these are random and never on my face. They get huge and dark purple and very hard and painful. I cant pop them so i medicate them and just wait. When theyre gone they leave a dark purple bruising colored scar behind. I also have warts popping up all over my hands and they wont go away with any treatment ive tried. Ive only had one wart my whole life and never since i was a child. This is uncommon for me and now i have many. And they grow big. They are also very sensitive so accidentally bumping one is very painful. Im currently dealing with a new skin rash that i get when i eat mango (im allergic to mango) but normally it goes away after a day with benadryl.
