Put me in the hospital with a red blood cell count of 4.3 (normal about 17) making numerous transpusions necessary. I was almost out of options for a very stubborn case of U.C. when my Doctor prescribed Humira. What a miracle! I have been taking Humira bi-weekly for a little over two years and my symptoms improved dramatically! In fact, after my most recent colonoscopy, I wsa declared in remission. My quality of life is back to where it was before my diagnoses! I know there are certain risks and sideffects to every drug, but I had very few options left other than the dreaded "S" word (Surgery!!) I feel better than I have in a long time....crohn's wise. The side effects are pretty exhausting, but I'm trying to wait it out! I have terrible leg, hip, hands and feet pain. The leg pain wakes me up at night and I can't seem to get relief. I don't know if the dosage can be cut down a bit or if there is a suggestion to counteract all this pain. I just had the ANITBODY TEST for HUMIRA which is now available from Prometheus Labs via your doctor. After 2.9 years, I developed resistance through my body building up antibodies/immunity to HUMIRA. I stopped HUMIRA immediately. My Doctor recommends the last biologic available, CIMZIA. I am so happy and relieved not living with side effects, I will wait as long as I can before taking a new drug. Please talk with your doctor about getting the ANTIBODY test done. Fevers were initially low grade and controlled with Ibuprophen. After a few weeks, they started to spike daily to 104'F. She was admitted to hospital for about 5-weeks and was tested and scanned for everything imaginable. Tests kept coming back negative for any type of infections or cancers and doctors began to suspect HLH. Autopsy confirmed HLH as cause of death. HUMIRA (ADALIMUMAB): Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function.
