| 5 | Crones and AS | Hot flashes sometimes moody frequent colds, get sick more often than not but I get through it. Small price to pay. | I was diagnosed in 2004 with colitis and anklelosing spondylitis. The first doctor I saw wanted to immediately take out my lower colon and then would wear a colostomy bag. I had a second opinion and started drug therapy the usual steroids. These did not work. I met a very good Ruematologist she suggested humira. Since I have been taking this medication I have no flare ups for colitis or AS basically in remission. This medication saved my life. I have recently been diagnosed with AS. I am to be started on Humira in the next couple of weeks, I have been reading reviews to see what other peoples reactions are like. So far it seems very 50/50, either it works brilliantly with no side effects or it doesn't work with lots of side effects. I have read some disturbing and frankly wrong reviews and would like to share my thoughts. It is true, Humira can increase the risk of some cancers, due to it being a TNF-inhibitor, however if the TNF cells were that great at their job (necrosing tumour cells), nobody would suffer from cancer... Ever!! Therefore, the risk of cancer is always present even without Humira. Also, this drug is not a 'cure' it has never been marketed as a cure, it is designed to slow the progression of the disease and minimize further damage. A final note, to the people who are saying ' DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG!!! IT WILL KILL YOU!!' You are utterly ridiculous! I understand you feel strongly about this and i am deeply sorry you have suffered from sevear side effects, but you are potentially putting other people off, people who could really benefit from this drug and who's life could potentially be changed for the better. Your utterly unrealistic 'warnings' are extreamly dangerous and unnecessary. I will post another review once I have started my treatment. However this is a small price to pay. | Lefludamide, HCQ and Arcoxia failed to stop my knee froming going bad and was requiring injections every few months to walk again. Been in Humira now for 10 months and have not had a single episode. Back exercising without worry, playing golf and long walks. Still get the odd day of pain but no inflamation. HUMIRA (ADALIMUMAB): Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function. Adalimumab is also used to treat certain bowel conditions (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) and a certain eye disease (uveitis). (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)
