HUMIRA  (ADALIMUMAB):  Adalimumab is used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, ankylosing spondylitis). This medication is also used to treat certain skin disorders (such as plaque-type psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa). It works by blocking a protein (tumor necrosis factor or TNF) found in the body's immune system that causes joint swelling and damage in arthritis as well as red scaly patches in psoriasis. Adalimumab belongs to a class of drugs known as TNF blockers. By reducing joint swelling, this medication helps to reduce further joint damage and preserve joint function. Adalimumab is also used to treat certain bowel conditions (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) and a certain eye disease (uveitis).    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  CROHN'S This is a follow-up to my 10/27/07, 02/25/08 & 02/05/08 postings. I’ve taken Humira since late 2007. One shot every 15-18 days. Taking the shot just before bedtime is how I deal with the occasional headache following the shot. However, the headache is not nearly as severe as in the beginning . . . no big deal really. I had a difficult time recovering from the Flu in 08 . . . ended up with bronchitis. This is the first drug that has worked for me other than prednisone. . . I had catastrophic reactions to Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Dipentum and Imuran before finding Humira. I’m free of all Crohn’s symptoms. M 51 3 years

5  Plaque Psoriasis Absolutely None Ive had moderate to severe Plaque Psoriasis for just over 7 years now, after 4 years of different teatments including UV, Oral and topical, nothing was working, nothing would even put a dent in the plaques, finally my dermatologist suggested Humira, afer weighing the pro's and con's I decided to give it a try and boy am I glad, Humira has given me a new lease on life, I recently moved and needed a new prescription for it, afraid of the plaques returning, I was frantically trying to get in to see a new doctor for the prescription (like a crackhead looking for a fix) That is the only concern I have, is that when you stop taking the injections, the plaques return.. Have been plaque free for 3 years and it has indeed changed my life. no more long sleeve shirts and pants in summertime!! If you have any questions about this drug, feel free to email me, I will naswer anything I can.. M 30 3 years

5  Psoriatic Arthritis The only problem I have had is neutropenia. My bloodcounts are monitored regularly and when the neutrophil count goes low I wait until it goes back up before I inject again. Humira changed my life. I am 100% free of psoriasis, even my nails grow normally. Still have some joint swelling in my hands but nothing like before. M 40 5 years

5  psoriatic arthritis Zero side effects I have arthritis in my foot, finger, wrist, mid spine, and sacroiliac joints. The pain completely went away in all but my sacroiliac joint which was the first to hurt. It has helped a lot with my sacroiliac joint, but I think some of the damage was permanent. It took my three years to figure out what was wrong and by then it was too late for the sacroiliac joints. It still has helped a lot though. M 36 17 months

5  Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Very hard injection to take especially on legs, even with using ice beforehand.Short Term Memory seems to be disimproving, localised swelling on injection site, fatigued for a day or two after injecting. Had psoriasis since I was 7, nearly 40 years now, went through every possible treatment, some good, some bad. Humira has completely cleared my psoriasis and pains are totally gone. This year I learned how to swim-imagine that-for me the psycholigical benefits far outweigh the possible adverse effects, it will probably kill me in the end but being clear of psoriasis after 40 years makes me feel "normal" and that is having a thremendous effect on my quality of life and even on my relationship with me wife.It is a matter of choice-take the chance and probably be free of psoriasis-or live life covered up..I know which one I prefer.  5  I have Ankylosing Spondylitis Painful joints, struggled to walk. I went from struggling to walk and pumping endless amounts of painkillers and anti-inflammatories to walking, running painfree, going to the gym 3 times a week to even playing competative rugby! Life changing experience for me. M 27 6 months

5  Rheumatoid arthritis None This has been a miracle drug for me,started working almost immediately after my first injection.I stopped taking methotrexate after a year and a half because I had a hard time with side effects and it was only partially effective.Fortunately for me my health insurance pays most of the cost (I only have a small co-pay) because it's very expensive!  5  Psoriasis and Psoriatic arthritis None that I can directly attribute to Humira. Long time psoriasis sufferer. Humira has been a miracle drug for me. I went from ~ 20% overall psoriasis coverage to less than 1%. It has eliminated the pitting and lifting of my nails. I have mild psoriatic arthritis, and the Humira has basically elimated the arthritic pain that I had before going on the drug. Have not experienced any side effects while on the drug. M 39 8 months

5  RA No noticeable side effects. Before taking Humira I had extreme difficulty using my hands. Within a few weeks I had practically full mobility back in my hands and feet. I don't need any pain killers or anti-flammatories. I appreciate some people may not have had such a positive experience, but I certainly wouldn't like to have to go back. M 47 2 years

5  Psoriasis Mild sinus infections Very happy with drug so far. Psoriasis has been 100% clear since 5 weeks after start of treatment. Administration is easy and not painful. I have had severe psoriasis for 30 years, nothing else gave same remission as humira. Methotrexate stopped working after six months and side effects were more severe. M 47 16 months

5  CROHN'S The only side effects are 30 to 60 minutes of nausea immediately following the injections and a felling of fatigue and mental fogginess the remainder of the day. Decided to try Humira after experiencing severe adverse reactions to Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Dipentum and Imuran. Prednisone worked well for me but after seven years of use caused hip and lower back problems. Started Humia 30 days ago and was totally symptom free and off the steroids within the first week. I haven’t felt this well in years. M 49 30 days

5  Crohns Only stinging for a few minutes after the injection. I was having severe stomach pains every day, several times a day. They literally stopped the first night after I took my first injections. I'm on the normal 1 ever 2 wks dosage. I'm worried as to long term effects since its new drug but the pain is gone and I'm completely symptom free. M 28 3 months
