DEPO-MEDROL  (METHYLPREDNISOLONE ACETATE):  Methylprednisolone is used to treat pain and swelling that occurs with arthritis and other joint disorders. This medication may also be used to treat various conditions such as blood disorders, severe allergic reactions, certain cancers, eye conditions, skin/intestinal/kidney/lung diseases, and immune system disorders. It decreases your immune system's response to these conditions and reduces symptoms such as swelling, pain, and allergic-type reactions. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of methylprednisolone, especially if it is to be injected near your spine (epidural). Rare but serious side effects may occur with epidural use. Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid hormone. Methylprednisolone may also be used with other medications in hormone disorders.    (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  Acute sinus swelling. None. I went to several doctors (allergists and general practitioners) from age five to thirty-five. I could not breathe through my nose or smell anything. My nose would run constantly and I was sneezing often. I finally gave up, as no pills these doctors gave me helped at all. At age 35, I decided that I should have a regular physician, so I called a referral service. During my initial visit, the doctor asked if I had any specific problems. I told him of my situation, and he asked me if I had ever been giver Depo-Medrol or Methylprednisolone. I said that I had tried Methylprednisolone in the six-day dosage pack. He said that wouldn't work, I need an injection. I gave me a dose of Depo-Medrol, within two days, I could breathe through my nose, smell things I never had before, and I could taste food better than ever. I go in every month for an injection and never have allergy discomfort or swelling anymore. It was a Godsend. M 51 16 years

5  poison ivy maybe a tiny bit of soreness I got poison ivy for the first time. It was itchy and it got worse after a few days, and with no help from creams and a prescription anti-histamine. Finally, I went to my regular doctor, and he gave me this shot. It's been two days, and the spots dried up. He said I could have had poison ivy outbreak again if I was touched by it in other areas, and that this shot would prevent it. My brother gets it badly, and he gets relief from this quickly. It also seemed to help my sinus pain, which I regularly have from frequent allergies and sinus problems. It feels like someone decreased the swelling. If my doctor would give me the option, I would have this shot more often, as it helps me not feel miserable from sinus headaches. M 27 1 days

5  Severe rash on hands and feet No side effects only relief! I've had a horrible rash almost like poison ivy/oak. Derm says it is contact dermatitis. I've gone to walk in clinics and demand a shot of Depo instead of other steroids. The rash completely goes away for approximately 45 days. After steroid wares off rash comes back. Once itches is unbearable after 2 to 3 weeks I go on the hunt for a new walk in clinic that will give me an a shot of Depo I ask for 2 ml of 40 mg and I'm good for another 2 months. Most amazing drug. I know you shouldn't use this med for long periods of time but the pros and cons I choose no rash. M 33 2 years

4  MUSCULAR INJURY NO SIDE AFFECTS , I HAD 5 SHOTS OF 80MG DEPO MEDROL INJECTIONS IN THE LAST MONTHS. WELL, I HAVE RECENTLY HAD 5 INJECTIONS OF 80MG DEPOMEDROL IN THE LAST SIX MONTHS ( FEB 2009- JULY 2009 ), THERE HASNT BEEEN ANY SIDE AFFECT AND THE INJECTION SEEMS TO BE A DECENT CHOICE AS IT WORKS GOOD WITH THE PAIN, BUT ALL THESE 5 INJECTIONS WERE GIVEN AT DIFFERENT SPOTS, THE INJECTION HAS NOT YET BEEN REPEATED TWICE AT THE SAME SPOT, I AM TAKING IT FOR THE REAR DELTOID AND SHOULDER INJURY DUE TO BODY BUILDING, BUT U MUST GIVE A GOOD REST OF A MONTH FOR A TOTAL RECOVERY, THATS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, BUT THE PAIN CAN EASE DOWN WITH IN 10 DAYS. I THINKS ITS A GOOD OPTION ,BUT AGAIN NOT EVERY DRUG IS SUITABLE FOR EVERYONE, LIKE I AM ALLERGIC TO CREATINE BUT MOSTLY 95% ARNT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT. REMEMBER, NEVER HAVE REPEATED INJECTIONS WITH IN A WEAK, AS HAVING MORE THAN 1 INJECTION IN A WEEK CAN HAVE SIDE AFFECTS, 3 OF MY SHOTS WERE GIVEN WITH A GAP OF 15 DAYS, WHICH IS A DECENT GAP FOR ANOTHER SHOT OF DEPO MEDROL, REMEBER WHEN U START NOTICING THE SIDE AFFECTS SUCH AS BLURRED VISION, DEPRESSION, NO SEX DRIVE AT ALL, TROUBLE SLEEPING, ACIDITY, THESE SIGNS MEAN NO MORE INJECTIONS FOR ATLEAST 2 MONTHS, CUZ I DID EXPERIENCE THESE COMMON SIDE AFFECTS AFTER GETTING 3 SHOTS OF 80 MG IN A PERIOD OF 45 DAYS, AFTER MY 3RD INJECTION THE COMMON SIDE AFFECTS STARTED TO APPEAR AND I STOPPED THE INJECTIONS THERE AND THEN AGAIN HAD THE 4TH INJECTION AFTER A GAP OF 4 MONTHS, AND I WAS OK AND DIDNT SEE ANY SIDE AFFECTS AFTER THE 4TH SHOT WHICH I RECIEVED AFTER 2 MONTHS GAP.  3  Osterarthritis Knees Used for approx 1-1/2 years with no side effects. After having a stroke Jan. 2009, had another injection about 8 months after the stroke. Side effects were elevated blood presure and rapid heart beat. Depo-Medrol worked for the first 1-1/2 years, but after my stroke, I think that my overall "good" health outweights the side effects of this medicine. (blood presure and rapid heart beat) M 59

2  shouler pain torn labrum Had injections twice within a 4 month peroid. Servere cramping of all muscles. orthapedic doctor who did injections NEVER informed me of SIDE EFFECTS or AFTER CARE let alone what he was injecting! I think these injections are used very recklessly and are doing far more damage than good. After second injection ring finger has gone totally numb. Also pain in kidneys. M 43 1 days

2  Severe seasonal allergy First, acute spike in blood pressure and heart rate, anxiety, difficulty sleeping (even sitting still), acid stomach, belching. Next day, alarming physical weakness, dizziness, depression. Starting that second night, heavy but unrestful sleep with unusually vivid, crazy, even revolting bad dreams (normally, I rarely even remember my dreams) with lingering gloom on waking. (Now I dread going to sleep!) Pain from hip injection much worse 3 days afterwards, despite hot baths and massaging the area; feels like my hip was hit with a sledge hammer! Depo-Medrol alleviated about 95% of my major allergy miseries in 24 hours, but then the "roller coaster" of very unpleasant side effects after that are a whole new bunch of miseries! I think next time I'll suffer through the allergy with more OTC meds rather than undergo these awful side effects again!! The doctor said this shot could give me amazing relief. Well, yes...and NO!!!  1  Chronic Allergies Was given a single shot of DEPO for horrible chronic allergies 10 days ago. A few hours later my throat was a bit scratchy and my drainage had increased. The next day, everything went downhill. While my sinus symptoms greatly improved, the side effects, which I'm still coping with, are an absolute nightmare. Headaches, fatigue, cold hands and feet with strange muscle weakness plus pins and needles feeling, random body aches and pains, shortness of breath upon exertion, diahhrea with abdominal pain, and for 4 straight days a low grade fever. The kicker? Exactly a week after the shot, the sinus symptoms returned. Might be great for some people but I'll NEVER touch the stuff again. Note: Prednisone also screws me up hardcore. M 33 1 days

1  Torn rotator cuff The 20yr old female that so confidently stated that side effects are short lived and go away, you are a moron! Common sense tells you that everyone is different and affected differently by numerous things. I had a disk removed and fusion of my cervical spine. When I awoke from surgery I felt amazing compared to the previous years of heavy arms and locked up muscles. One month later I was approved by neurosurgeon to have an injection of depo-medrol into my torn rotator cuff by the orthopedic surgeon. Afterwards I felt even better, the burning at top of shoulder was gone and I even expressed to my wife how amazing it was. By the end of the next day everything changed, my left side muscle in my neck became rock hard again and from top to bottom my trap muscle on left side was locked up also. Then my arm became very heavy and tired feeling. Then a few days later my sternum began to hurt very badly and the top side of my ribs were very tender to the touch. Eventually I couldn't pick up my 2yr old because I would get a traveling pain down left side of my back when I tried to lift her. It has now been almost 2 months since shot and I'm now taking Neurotin and muscle relaxers for minimal relief from the nonstop pain of constantly being locked up. This has been consuming my life. I have been depressed, angry, and dumbfounded that this shot has made me feel worse than before my surgery. My only hope is that since it is a 3 month interval shot that next month it will all stop. So 20yr old female, you're dumb as sh*t. M 37 1 days

1  Allergies I was given the shot about 2 weeks ago and immediate reacted in doctors office with almost passing out, heart pounding and racing, and shaking uncontrollably. They gave me a shot of Benedryl which helped calm me down but have been in ER 2 times since with racing heart, feeling faint, BP has been up since and sugar elevated which I have never really had these symptoms until I took the shot. I hope this passes soon! They say I may have developed a anxiety disorder as a result. Try everything before taking a shot of this crap! M 39 1 days

1  knee sprain The stiffness and soreness in my knee immediately returned. Like going back to square one. I only got the injection because I was going hiking for a week. The knee had nearly healed. A steroid shot had been recommended by another doctor for a previous sprain, and by friends who's had it. Instead of relieving the symptoms, it was like re-injuring the knee. M 65 9 days

1  Cortisone Injection Headache, Depression, Suicide feeling, 5 days of crying due to depression, extreme pain, stiffness in arm., unable to sleep, body became more sensitive to cold with weakness Cortisone shot was given for minor torn rotator cuff. The major pain lasted for 1 week slowly reducing. Depression lasted for nearly 3 weeks, still sometimes feel it. No proper sleep for nearly a month. Body is still sensitive to cold. Low ache pain which comes on and off and sometimes the pain get worst with cold air. I would never do this again. My doctor push me for it even though i did not have much pain. I did not need it but my doctor pushed for it. He never told me the effects when I asked him. He just said no issues with it. I regret taking it. I read it takes nearly 8 months to clear the body. Doctors should be held liable for giving these medicines just to make money and putting people lives at risk. Avoid steroid shots. M 38
