| 1 | Neck pain for years | I had this injection in my neck 5 weeks ago and have experienced horrible anxiety, panic attacks, skin crawling, agitation, irritability, weird dreams. I have researched extensively and have found no answers to how long these side effects will last. I did see that the mechanism of action is 1-5 weeks so I'm hoping that I can get stabalized and taken off the klonopin I have been prescribed which is the only thing working to keep my anxiety at bay. Don't ever get this injection done EVER, if I had known the possible risks and side effects I would have never gotten it done! | 5 weeks and counting and still no relief in site. My psych doctor is hoping I can be stabalized for the next 2 weeks so I can hopefully start tapering down the klonopin and deal with all the lovely withdrawal effects!! I am 4 months out and the lingering side effects are anxiety/depression and occas panic attacks, which my naturalpathic and I are working on. I have never had any of these before and they are quite debilitating. I feel better overall but by no means 100%. I exercise and eat healthy and all of these things help I think. I consistently get a flu-like illness every 4-6 weeks from the time I started this as part of my pain management routine. Without fail every few weeks I would have this "flu" that joined around me ever caught. I have nurses, family, support workers etc around me daily and no one had ever caught it. Symptoms would be: *nausea (severe) has to be controlled with IV administered through peripheral IV daily, along with gravol. That is how severe the nausea had gotten). Fever 100-103 Racing heart when standing 120+bpm (I assume it would go hand in hand with my next symptom) Orthostatic intolerance- no would bottom out when standing. Was low when sitting or supine however I didn't have the same effects from being supine or sitting, compared to standing. Unable to stay hydrated. Due to vomiting. Unable to get comfortable. I would get hot and cold sweats that would change every 2 min. Way too hot and soaked in sweat so take layers off and would be freezing before I could get a heavy sweater off. No appetite whatsoever. Common sense tells you that everyone is different and affected differently by numerous things. I had a disk removed and fusion of my cervical spine. When I awoke from surgery I felt amazing compared to the previous years of heavy arms and locked up muscles. One month later I was approved by neurosurgeon to have an injection of depo-medrol into my torn rotator cuff by the orthopedic surgeon. Afterwards I felt even better, the burning at top of shoulder was gone and I even expressed to my wife how amazing it was. By the end of the next day everything changed, my left side muscle in my neck became rock hard again and from top to bottom my trap muscle on left side was locked up also. Then my arm became very heavy and tired feeling. Then a few days later my sternum began to hurt very badly and the top side of my ribs were very tender to the touch. Eventually I couldn't pick up my 2yr old because I would get a traveling pain down left side of my back when I tried to lift her. It has now been almost 2 months since shot and I'm now taking Neurotin and muscle relaxers for minimal relief from the nonstop pain of constantly being locked up. This has been consuming my life. I have been depressed, angry, and dumbfounded that this shot has made me feel worse than before my surgery. About 2 minutes later I could walk normally. My back was still tight but a good 80% of the pain was gone. It's now 645pm and I'm still very comfortable. Little tight but pain is minimal. After the first three months post injection, I HAD to find a psych dr., I have bad reactions to SSRI's and other psych meds apart from Valium...so he prescribed 5mg a day. After a week, I felt, ok so I thought I would ween off...BAD idea; symptoms came back. Tried to go back up on 5mg, but it no longer worked. Had to up to 10mg. Corticosteroid use (abuse) is now booming business for doctors and drug companies, and it seems that the administration of these drugs has become unbelievably irresponsible.
