| 5 | Weight gain, thinning hair, occasional bruising at injection site. | I could not walk across the floor without the bottom of my feet throbbing and I kept my thumb in a splint so nothing would touch it. I just knew my RA was making me wheel chair bound. Enbrel changed my life! I have the occasional flare up for a few days along with stiff back and hips. But I mow my lawn, walk all day showing properties, get in the floor with my grandkids, chase my dog. I have a happy and productive life. Enbrel gives me energy for several days. I feel great for 4 or 5 days. But I can tell when it's time for my shot. No injection-site reactions or other side effects... I experienced noticeable improvement in SI, neck, and hip pain after 2 injections, with continued improvement. After several months I noticed slower wound healing, and discoloration after a cut or breakout had healed. With the reduction in pain, my stress decreased, I was able to increase exercise & stretching, sleep more, bring inflammation down, and stop using the Enbtel after a year and a half. I discontinued using it without tapering- listened to my body, and stopped when I felt I was ready. ENBREL (ETANERCEPT): This medication is used alone or in combination with an immunosuppressant (such as methotrexate) to treat certain types of arthritis (such as rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, and ankylosing spondylitis). Some brands of this medication are also used to treat a skin condition called psoriasis. These conditions are caused by an overactive immune system (autoimmune disease). The immune system attacks the body's own healthy cells, causing inflammation in the joints and skin. Etanercept controls your body's defensive response by blocking the action of a certain natural substance (TNF) that is used by the immune system. Treatment decreases redness, itching and scaly patches in psoriasis as well as the pain, swelling and stiffness of joints in arthritis. This medication can stop the progression of disease and joint damage, resulting in improved daily functioning and quality of life. This medication treats but does not cure autoimmune diseases.
