| 5 | Severe Depression | Dry brittle hair, some falling out, burning scalp, some weight gain/edema. | Tried 35 antidressant drugs for severe treatment resisitant depression - the kind where you are in bed 23 of 24 hours a day. It's a bad place to be. And it's not a mental thing only, the physical is as bad, or worse...wondering if you have the energy to climb the stairs, to get to the bathroom. Cytomel changed that in one day. 20 years of depression gone in one day. It was like someone gave CPR to my soul. Very hard to describe. You take a look around at your house...not cleaned in 6 months, and you can't quite contemplate the change. It's actually quite scary the change - you're alive again. Cytomel gave me my life back. And at only 5mcg's twice a day. There really needs to be some more research done on depression as the drug co's seem to have settled on the neurotransmitter model. Well, I'm living proof that they are wrong. Platelets size which had always been large were normalized, cholesterol was under control, mind fog was gone, and my temperature which had been running around 95 F went up to 97. I am furious that no one had bothered to try this route 2 or more decades ago. I feel like they were slowly killing me before. I was prescribed a small dose of Cytomel to help augment the antidepressant I had been taking but seemed to no longer work. I tried the generic form of Cytomel and had anxiety, more tearfulness, I just felt awful. The doctor then switched to brand name and those symptoms totally went away. Within about three weeks time I noticed a tremendous difference in my depression. I was far less anxious and that terrible feeling of dread/impending doom was gone. I because more interested in things again and within two months of taking it I am back to myself again. I was having some symptoms of hypothyroidism but my tests always came back within normal range. I was losing hair, gaining weight, the outer third of my eyebrows were gone. My hair and skin were dry. Many of those symptoms I still have, but the anxiety and depression have gone. I panicked when Perrigo recently was discontinued, but Mayne Pharma is making what I hear is a generic that is also dairy-, soy-, gluten- and starch-free. I'm starting it soon and will report on its effectiveness. The only other alternative is compounding. I've had no problems and no side effects with the generics that had no fillers that I would react to. | Others' side effects may be from fillers used in manufacturing, especially those with Hashimotos. I have a ton of allergies. I followed the trail of the company all the way to the fillers they used. There it was. Sulfur from India as yellow color number 3. Canada was buying the lio- from India then putting it through their system as made in Canada. They slid right past there was no T3 in it either. Anyway, went name brand and my life did a 180. I have Heart Failure so I watch everything closely. I would advise all of you to pay attention if you have any physical issues at all. YOU have to stay on top of how you are feeling or if something is wrong. There are different things and conditions that interact with Cytomel and it and your life can go south in a hurry, so pay attention. CYTOMEL (LIOTHYRONINE SODIUM): Liothyronine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally made by the thyroid gland. Liothyronine is a man-made form of thyroid hormone. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone helps you stay healthy. For children, having enough thyroid hormone helps them grow and learn normally. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid problems (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer). It can also be used to test for certain types of thyroid disease.
